The Conservation and Recreation Director will manage the parks of Smithfield Township and act as the primary liaison for all recreational, environmental, MS4 compliance, and park-related items.
This includes pursuing and managing park development and use, coordinating various recreation programs and special events for the community, and monitoring and managing the long-term environmental impacts of a developing community.
This position reports directly to the Township Manager.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
Oversees development and operation of all Township parks.
Engages with community organizations that utilize the parks and manages all park usage Actively applies for and manages grants related to parks in coordination with the Township Manager.
Promotes and publicizes recreation programs and activities; prepares and coordinates the development of program and event publicity items, including flyers, brochures, news releases, etc.
Develops, implements, and updates park policies and procedures.
Manages the Township's MS4 program and promotes environmental consciousness in the community.
Conducts regular site visits to all Township parks and public land.
Assists with general office tasks as required, including assisting constituents, responding to complaints, scanning files, and maintaining township databases.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
Associate degree or higher, or equivalent experience in a related field.
Must possess a valid driver's license.
Must have knowledge of methods, best practices, and equipment used in park management; rules and regulations related to park construction; ADA requirements as it relates to park amenities; and environmental impacts.
Must have knowledge of or willingness to learn laws and regulations related to second-class townships and MS4.
Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time.
Needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
Constantly operates a computer and other office machinery, such as a copier, printer, and scanner.
Must be able to traverse parks and other municipal properties.
Must be able to communicate clearly and accurately in writing and orally.
Occasionally transport files from storage to desk for use.
